Comments Off on Lake Erie Perch and White Fish
Chatting with a chef friend in Ohio we got talking about the Lake Erie perch quality. My friend was living across Lake Erie Ohio state and returned back to his home town in Sandusky Ohio to retire just like myself returning back home from BC. We both were resort chefs and I met him on Peelee Island years back. Checking out all the eateries he’s retraced upon returning found that most have lost that loving feeling of cooking from scratch. We were comparing Lake Erie fish and chips mostly. The one thing we both found is that so many restaurants today are not cutting fresh potatoes that supports about 75 percent of it’s menu. Well prepared fish but when the french fries are making up 50 percent of the meal that is taking away and replaced with a cheap knockoff frozen french fry.
We both agreed on that the best things may take more labour and cost but when it comes to quality nothing beats a hand cut french fry fried in good oil making a meal worthy of a customer returning frequently to a place that he knows what he likes best. By the way my Erie Beach Hotel Perch plate was $21 Can. and my American friend Chad’s was $24 in U S funds. Mine had celery toast and coleslaw his sides were extra. I just tried some fresh caught Lake Erie White Fish Ceviche in Port Dover at the Mule last week. The chef has his way with my taste buds. The Perch Street Tacos were also perfectly executed. A Fried Perch Wrap was top shelf delish.
Lot’s of first class lake Erie Fish cuisine found in Port Dover eateries. Life is a Beach Perch Snack!
